About Micheal

Michael Aboneka is a Ugandan Practising Advocate of the courts of Judicature of Uganda for 10 years, passionate about the rule of law, democracy, good governance, human rights and combating climate change.

He is a partner at Thomas and Michael Advocates (Kampala Uganda) attorneys at law with a speciality in the fields of constitutional and human rights law. He is the founder of Walezi Wa Katiba Foundation a human rights think tank focusing on promoting constitutionalism and human rights through research and litigation. He is also a researcher passionate about Disability Rights, Digital Rights, Democracy and Governance and Human rights in general.

He has published several policy alternatives and missives on a range of issues. Michael is a crusading public interest and strategic litigation practitioner who has filed and supported over 10 public interest cases in the High Court and Constitutional Court in Uganda. Michael is a PhD candidate at the University of Pretoria. He has attained special training in Constitution building at the Central European University, Budapest, Hungary and holds a master of laws degree in Human Rights and Democratisation at the University of Pretoria, South Africa.

He wields 15 years of experience working in the Civil Society Sector in the areas of Governance monitoring, leadership, activism, policy engagement and Development, Aid effectiveness, Civil Society Sustainability and civic Space, Extractives, Human rights and regional governance mechanisms.
